Budgeting 101 ? Understand Your Personal Finances, And Live ...

Personal financial success can be influenced by our ability to pay attention to how we handle money. The following article recommends little habits we can all do routinely to start thinking about where our money is coming from and where it?s going. The best part about these suggestions is that they don?t require daily attention. Some of these steps can be implemented in a few minutes a month.

?

When you are saving for an emergency fund, aim for at least three to six months worth of living expenses. This is not a large amount, considering the difficulty in finding employment if you ever lose your job. In fact, the larger the emergency fund, the better position you would be in to ride out any unforeseen financial catastrophes.

?

Do not close credit card accounts in hopes of fixing your credit. Closing credit card accounts will not help your score, instead it will hurt your score. If the account has a balance, it will count towards your total debt balance, and show that you are making regular payments to a open credit card.

?

To keep your personal finances in order, it?s essential to protect yourself from identity theft, and there are some simple ways to do this. Ensure that you thoroughly shred any documents containing any information from financial institutions, such as bank statements, before throwing them out in the trash. This is because fraudsters target the waste disposal system precisely for documents containing information like this.

?

This article explains little things that can be done to incorporate a routine consideration of financial health. A little bit of time and attention will help improve our financial health and keep attention on the little things that we can do in managing our personal finances. Some steps take only a few minutes at a time to keep us on top of our finances.

Review of Escort 8500 Radar Detector | Mobile Audio, Video ...

Escort is known for its superior technology and performance in radar detection. The 8500?50 is no exception. It is a large detector for the ?value and the average should be a need for a user.

The bar has been designed very attractive appearance 8500?50. It?s sleek and compact design allows it to be mounted almost anywhere on the windshield of the car. The small profile of the detector also provides minimum visibility is blocking the way, who wants a big plus for the driver, the full view of the road and protect the radar.

The 8500 comes in two colors LED lights red and blue. The blue screen is a bit more expensive than the red, but other than aesthetics, the blue screen no performance advantage over the red version is displayed.

The 8500?50 offer wide range compared to other detectors in its price class. In some cases, offer 8500?50 more than two miles away from early-warning radar.

The 8500?50 is also an excellent detector for filtering false alarms. The detector has three settings, ?city?, ?Highway? and ?Auto?. The auto mode seems to be the best balance between sensitivity and selectivity filter false alarms and warnings for a genuine threat.

Although this is a large detector which has some drawbacks. In some areas of the USA, you must use officials some rapid detection methods tactic known as ?Quick Trigger?. It is when an officer?s radar gun that the trigger for a fraction of a second, and read in most cases the purchase of a speed. The 8500?50 not to say that these extremely short pulses of radar. Fortunately, this way of using radar is not often used, and a user of 8500?50 rarely encounter this kind of speed tactics.

A cousin of Quick Trigger speed is another tactic that is known ?pop?. POP is a short burst of radar, but a little longer cause so quickly. The 8500?50 is equipped to recognize and POPs are extremely sensitive to POP radar. A few quick trigger programs can also draw attention to 8500?50, so to lead to rapid 8500?50 weakness is perhaps not entirely true.

A further disadvantage of the apparatus LIDAR detection. When the user moves a little traffic to the packaging which 8500?50 something good countermeasure against lasers. The radius of the laser will be apparent to small and compact, small detector is very low. As with detectors, low-rise Mount laser detection, but the range of the radar cell detection decrease.

The radar detector 8500 x50 in the detection of a ?laser spread? in size. It is when the laser bounces off other cars to the user 8500?50 and the detector is designed to draw attention to the laser. This is a very useful warning to know when to brake to avoid a ticket. But 8500?50 is a perfect complement to a laser jammer, for full protection.

Overall, 8500 is a large detector with reasonable prices, good coverage and very user friendly. If you are looking for a better situation awareness while driving, it is a good choice.

Movie Review: 'Wanderlust' ? CBS Philly

(Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston star in "Wanderlust.")

(Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston star in ?Wanderlust.?)

?

By Bill Wine
KYW Newsradio 1060

?

If there?s any lingering doubt about Paul Rudd?s supremacy as a leading man on light-comedy patrol, Wanderlust makes it official ? if for no other reason than one segment consisting of nothing fancier than the enormously likable Rudd playing a straight-laced guy standing by himself and talking into the bathroom mirror, trying to psych himself into the hedonistic abandon that his situation and surroundings call for.

31 Movie Review: Wanderlust

(3 stars out of 4)

It is one of the most gut-bustingly hilarious, one-for-the-ages showcases of visual and vocal comedy on a movie screen in recent memory.

And it?s not the only thing Wanderlust has going for it as a fish-out-of-water comedy about the possibility of escaping from stressful contemporary society and embracing a different set of values and behaviors.

Rudd and co-star Jennifer Aniston play George and Linda Gergenblatt, a couple from Manhattan for whom the financial bottom has just fallen out, as George has lost his corporate job and filmmaker Linda the financing for her documentary.? They can no longer afford their tiny studio apartment.? (Oops, sorry ? realtors prefer to call it a ?micro-loft.?)

So, given how much it costs to live in New York even with a job, the jobless-and-essentially-homeless marrieds go in search of a slower-paced, less pressure-packed, materialism-abandoning alternative lifestyle.

They leave for Atlanta to move into the McMansion owned by George?s thoroughly objectionable brother, played by the overacting Ken Marino, whom they can hardly stand to be near for more than a moment.? (Us either.)

But along the way, they stop at a countryside bed-and-breakfast hotel that just happens to be a free-love-endorsing hippie commune. (Oops, sorry ? residents prefer to call it an ?intentional community.?)

It?s Elysium, where not having a job, not having any money, and not having any clothes on are not the same problems that they were back in the Big Apple.

This becomes their new if temporary home, one presided over by a leader played by Justin Theroux, the charismatic dispenser of the Kool-Aid at Elysium, which was founded decades ago by an aging hippie played by Alan Alda, who is still there even if he can?t quite remember why.

Can George and Linda adjust to this alternative way of life and fit in here, even while, in a half-heartedly developed subplot, corporate investor-developers are knocking at the door, intent on bulldozing Elysium to make way for a casino to be constructed on the sizable property?

The supporting cast, which also features Malin Akerman, Lauren Ambrose, Kathryn Hahn, Jordan Peele, Kerry Kenney-Silver, Linda Lavin, Michaela Watkins, and Joe Lu Truglio as the single resident nudist, comprise a watchable, game ensemble.

With Judd Apatow producing, director David Wain (Role Models, The Ten, Wet Hot American Summer), who co-wrote the finding-yourself script with Marino, keeps the narrative momentum as relaxed as the Elysium regulars and handles the R-rated raunch in an audience-friendly way.

And he gives his cast members an improvisatory freedom that they deserve ? and take advantage of.

That also applies, and then some, to leads Aniston and Rudd, possessors of expert comic timing and an unforced, winning, till-death-us-do-part chemistry.

So we?ll commune with 3 stars out of 4.? Lust is only one of the places that Wanderlust wanders to, and plenty of laughs follow.

Pocket Picks round-up: February 24th - Microsoft Office coming to iPad, Blockbuster bringing movies to Samsung mobiles, Ubuntu to turn Android phones into desktops

We all know that the technology industry is a bitterly competitive field. With so many companies offering their own patented solutions for the same problems, the battle for market dominance can get very ugly, very quickly.

This week's Pocket Picks news round-up tells a slightly different story, however, brimming as it is with collaborative efforts and harmonious overtones.

Whether it's Microsoft bringing Office to Apple's iPad, Samsung teaming up with Blockbuster, or Linux co-existing with Android on a single mobile handset, the big hitters have been putting aside their differences for the benefit of us all.

Well, mostly for themselves, but you get the picture.

Rumour: Microsoft Office arriving on iPad soon

It's hard to imagine two bigger rivals than Apple and Microsoft. Both hardware and software giants; both trying to entice technology consumers towards their respective products.

Which is why it's nice to see that a version of Microsoft's Office suite is reportedly crossing that invisible line in the sand to make a home on the iPad.

Allegedly similar in design to the OneNote app on iOS, Office for iPad should let you edit Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents, though we'll have to wait until its launch in a few weeks before we know what else it has to offer.

Blockbuster rumoured to be bringing movies to Samsung mobiles

If rumours are to be believed, movie rental service Blockbuster is making a play for mobile audiences by teaming up with handset manufacturer Samsung.

The plan is to allow Samsung customers access to thousands of Blockbuster-supplied movies, all viewable on the Korean manufacturer's range of Smart TVs, tablets, and smartphones.

Europe and North America should be able to take advantage of this service before the end of July, while Australian customers will probably have to save their popcorn until September.

Real-time collaboration comes to Google Docs for Android

The Android version of Google Docs is no longer the black sheep of the family, thanks to a feature-packed update that brings it more in line with other versions of the application.

Along with improved editing and formatting options, the app now allows two or more users to edit the same document simultaneously - a feature that has helped make Google Docs an essential tool for businesses the world over.

The update has been well received, with users reporting the app is both intuitive and quick to respond to edits, no matter who is making the alterations.

Ubuntu Linux desktop planned for dockable Android phones, Canonical claims

Canonical has announced that it has cooked up a version of the Ubuntu Linux desktop OS that can be installed on high-end Android smartphones.

Rather than running the device itself, Ubuntu will spring into action when your handset is connected to a docking station, providing a full desktop experience from a pocket-sized source.

Provided your phone has the necessary processing power, this could prove an excellent management solution for those of us who live on our mobiles, making syncing information between desktop and smartphone an absolute breeze. The system will be demoed at the Mobile World Congress next week.

Google rumoured to be launching Android-powered AR glasses

Google is set to go all Back to the Future Part II on our asses, with reports suggesting that it's readying an unconfirmed line of augmented reality glasses.

Running on Android, these futuristic specs are alleged to be in "late prototype stages". According to the post on 9to5Google, they will "provide a display with a heads up computer interface".

Another report form the 'Bits' section of the New York Times reveals that Google employees are "familiar with the project", and predicts the groovy goggles will arrive before the year is out.

Successful Approaches to Proven Online Business Customer Service

There is much more to reaching success on the web with your own business, and one of those additional responsibilities is ensuring you give terrific customer service. There are certain kinds of approaches and information you must know to make the a reality, though. We all have seen both good and bad customer service in our lives. This doesn?t change when you?re doing it online, but your approach definitely changes. We will step you through a few important items that will give you an edge in this area.

So how do you really go about providing quality customer service online? Let?s find out in the following article.

Remember to take advantage of social sites such as Twitter, and that has been used quite extensively for supporting customers. Many big companies have realized the importance of Twitter and are using it to not only build a relationship with their customers, but also to offer customer support. Do not ignore Twitter, even though it is not the little darling that Facebook has become. So if you?re not there for your customers on Twitter, then you?re missing out on something. Once you have this in place, then you will able to talk to people from time to time.

Real and perceived expert status by you to your customers is what will make them feel good about doing business with you. Take whatever steps you can to reassure your customers that you know what you?re talking about, which means knowing your product, business and market like the back of your hand. If you do any outsourcing at all for your customer service, you must ensure they have some degree of knowledge about your business. The reasons are clear because your efforts to have good customer service will backfire.

Good customer service that is competent and helps people in a timely fashion is worth working toward. Do not get too hung-up on the little things that sometimes go wrong, and just keep doing what you know is right. Not only do you need to learn more, but you have to put measures into place that are proven. When you focus on the customer and give them what they need, then you will be fine. You can actually become distinguished for the level and quality of the support you offer.

In the event you must learn additional about facts mentioned in this document, you must just click on Auto SMS System and Renegade Millionaire.

Public Criminal Law at its Best - Jotwell: Criminal Law

Guyora Binder, Making the Best of Felony Murder, 91 B. U. L. Rev. 403 (2011). available at SSRN.

?Making the Best of Felony Murder? is the culmination of a series of articles (and one book review essay) that have addressed the felony murder rule in American states and precedes a monograph to be published by Stanford University Press later this year. [The Origins of American Felony Murder Rules, 57 Stan. L. Rev. 59 (2004) (ssrn); The Culpability of Felony Murder, 83 Notre Dame L. Rev. 965 (2008) (ssrn); Meaning and Motive in the Law of Homicides, 3 Buff. Crim. L. Rev. 755 (2000); Felony Murder (Stanford University Press, forthcoming 2012).]? Binder has saved the best for last, and offered us not only a reading of the felony murder rule destined to help wake us up from a particularly telling pedagogic mystification, but a model of history and political theory as analytic tools for reconstructing doctrine.

Throughout this project, Binder challenges the view that felony murder rules are an archaic survivor of a hoary English common law approach to homicide liability (and criminal liability more generally) which endure in contemporary law despite clashing severely with the principles of modern criminal law liability because of their popularity with elected legislatures and prosecutors. ?In addition to being a core ?lesson? in first year criminal law classes, this view of felony murder arguably anchors a broader modernist conception of criminal law theory first laid down in the 1930s by criminal law scholars such as Herbert Wechslerand Roland Perkins, and refined in our era by giants such as our own Sandy Kadishand Frank Zimring.

Binder attacks this view on every front.? He argues that English common law, in fact, had nothing quite like the felony murder rule.? The belief that it did results from a lack of precision in distinguishing between several features of the English legacy, including overbroad and oft cited (but not followed) statements in Coke?s treatise and the fact that English homicide law turned much more on the centrality of lethal attack as the key actus reus, rather than on any particular mens rea.? The American rule had different origins, emerging from efforts to limit capital punishment through the definition of first degree murder as including killing during certain especially violent felonies, and spread by judicial elaboration to other homicide crimes associated with felonies more generally.

On the normative front, Binder argues that properly understood and limited (consistently with the actual American history of the rule), felony murder rules are quite compatible with modern contemporary intuitions about culpability.? In Binder?s reconstruction, felony murder is a negligent homicide aggravated by the fact that the unreasonable risk imposed on the victim was undertaken for a morally and legally condemnable reason.?? In seeking to construct the best felony murder rule possible consistent with its history and most defensible moral and practical objectives, Binder develops a broader theory he calls dual culpability.? In addition to the focus on the cognitive dimension of culpability, i.e., the actor?s expectation of causing harm, he wants to give equal weight to the ?moral worth? of the ends for which the risk of harm is imposed.

Much of the article is given over to a very careful doctrinal analysis of current felony murder rules in American states for the purpose of developing a pragmatic approach to legislative (and judicial) reconstruction of the rule to eliminate the many examples of problematic liability which appear in the critical articles and case book sections that have generally condemned the rule.? Binder shows that the major modern objection to felony murder, i.e., that it constitutes a form of strict liability (and one made worse by the severe penalties and moral stigma associated with murder) can and is readily avoided by various approaches including limiting the relevant felonies to those of manifest dangerousness (a kind of per se approach mens rea) and causation rules that require the death to be foreseeable.? Furthermore, the most objectionable cases, those that involve the combination of felony murder and accomplice liability, can be prevented by rules requiring the same mens rea or causation rules to apply to accomplices as they do to the effective killer.? Finally, Binder defends and refines traditional merger rules that require the felony to be independent of the assault on the victim.

These articles, and the forthcoming book, exemplify why Guyora Binder is such a great criminal law scholar.? He is always grounded in history and a sensitive concern with doctrine as expressed in decided law but seeks, in the model of Ronald Dworkin, to see how that history/doctrine can be reconstructed to be more consistent with its best principles.? As a legal theorist he is well grounded in traditional analytic jurisprudence but also in continental legal and philosophical theory, cultural theory, as well as theoretical and empirical social science.

I particularly like these pieces because they represent something very important for our particular historical moment, i.e., the revival of a self-conscious academic engagement with criminal law policy that accepts the inevitably populist and political nature of American criminal law but insists on a serious dialog between academics and the public in the pragmatic tradition of John Dewey.? Recently criminologists have been discussing the need to respond to populist punitiveness rather than wish for a walling off of policy from public discourse.? See Ian Loader and Richard Sparks, Public Criminology? (Routledge 2010).? Making the Best of Felony Murder is an example of public criminal law at its best.

Getting to the root of the Ceora family tree

Those of you who remember our little discussion here recently of grasspea breeding, and in particular the importance (or otherwise) of breeding for low values of the neurotoxin ?-N-oxalyl-L-?,?-diaminopropionic acid (?-ODAP) in its seeds, will not be surprised to learn that a press release a few days ago announcing a new(ish) promising low-ODAP variety called Ceora sent me scurrying around in Genebank Database Hell.

Grass pea is a hardy annual legume with a growth habit similar to field pea, characterised by resistance to both drought and waterlogging. Its low cost, low input nature makes it a prime feed crop.

It has been restricted in use, however, due to the presence of neurotoxin ODAP, which causes paralysis of the lower limbs (lathyrism).

This was overcome by the breeding of cultivar Ceora (Lathyrus sativus) by Dr Colin Hanbury, Prof Kadambot Siddique and Dr Ashutosh Sarker of the Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture (CLIMA).

With an ODAP level of 0.04 to 0.09 percent, Ceora virtually eliminates the toxin?s effects, making it safe for animal consumption.

Dr Gusmao has delved deeper into the plant?s benefits.

Those benefits are a suite of adaptations to cope with, and indeed also avoid, water deficits. Promising indeed. But how was this miracle plant concocted?

Ok, so googling pretty quickly revealed that Ceora, which incidentally ?is the first grass pea (Lathyrus sativus) cultivar to be bred and released in Australia? ?

?was derived from a cross made in 1994 at Northam, Western Australia (WA), using female parent K33 (originating from Pakistan) x male parent 8604 (originating from Bangladesh).

That?s from its official registration note. So all we now have to do is trace K33 and 8604. And that?s where I hit a wall. Because apart from finding that 8604 was also subsequently called ATC 80723 (see page 425 here), I could make no further headway. Sure, 8604 might be this accession in GRIN. But then again it might not be. And of a K33 (in its various permutations) from Pakistan I could find no mention in any database. There?s a grasspea labelled K33 cv Zubryak from Russia in VIR?s database, but that?s coincidence, surely.

So I was reluctantly forced, and not for the first time, to enlist the help of a Virgil, in this case Dirk Enneking, who has commented here frequently on grasspea and other pulse breeding issues. To cut a long story short, he used his global network of grasspea contacts to discover (or re-discover, as he also found some of this stuff buried in his old notes), that 8604 is a breeding line developed by crossing the Indian line Pusa-24 (as male) with the Bangladeshi landrace ?Jamalpur local? (female). Both P-24 (as it is also known) and Jamalpur local have a history of use in grasspea improvement. The former in particular is known for its low ODAP content. As for, K33 its origin seems to lie with Pakistani researcher Hafeez I.T. Khawajas, but little is know beyond that.

Anyway, all this is of any conceivable interest to anyone only if they can get hold of the germplasm. Ceora is of course commercially available, although a reference sample is also stored in the USDA system. So too is P-24, although it is presumably also in the Indian genebank at NBPGR (and perhaps ICARDA, though I couldn?t find it on Genesys). Hopefully all this stuff is at Horsham, but I cannot be sure because they, like NBPGR, are not online. For now.

P.S. And here?s a final thought. This took a couple of weeks and endless emails to unravel. The much more complicated Wita 9 pedigree story just a few clicks. Once we get genebank databases sorted out, we?ll have to link them to breeders? databases. Once.

P.P.S. Now, speaking of grain legume breeding in Australia, did someone mention the Afghan pea accession PS998?

Taking Terrible ouT of Toddler: BLAME

This message below pertains to most of my readers, since this is a blog for parents. It is a very controversial issue, so if you have a distaste for that, warning do not read further.

This saying has been plastered on Pinterest (my new addiction) and is all over the web with huge-positive response. I love Pinterest, it is a way to visualize my dreams, to organize ideas and things I want to do and try. Pinterest has a downside, there is no filter, once I put in the web page I see every Pinterest member's ideas, dreams, and stuff they want to try. Some times my morals don't jive with several other peoples and I see things I don't want to, like porn, disturbing images, and sayings that may offend me. There is no filter button but once I log in, I can choose to see only people I follow on Pinterest.
I appreciate that we are all different. Although I like to keep my freedom of choice, and if someone walked into my home with a porn image I would ask them to leave, if they did not leave I would start with some threats, and if the threats didn't work, then actions would follow. So by using Pinterest I am allowing a person to effect my home, without actually entering, and I just have no clue what they are going to whip out, as far as images. So now my choice to keep things that disturb me from floating around in my home and brain coincides with the choice to get on Pinterest. This is very upsetting.

So back to this saying, every time I see it, it crawls up my skin. Mainly because of what the words mean. It lacks understanding of the basic start of human life. It is an excuse conveying a hypocritical ideal or in other words a publicly approved attitude, that goes against the basic concept behind Gay rights activists, fighting for choice, and that if you don't like something blame something else...not yourself. Starting the blame game, comes from weak people who don't accept responsibility and don't value the right to choose. People who blame hand over their basic right to choose, point their finger at whom they handed it to and say it is their fault for taking away from them. Gay or Straight the blame game is inaccurate and only results in sadness. Sometimes the results are huge like; death/war, and loss of the rights of the people who want to keep their choices. I have the understanding that Gay people are fighting for a choice, a choice to be married to whomever they want, but this sign means it isn't about choice. This is a sign is about something else controversial, Nature vs. Nurture. Nature: how our genes predetermine our choices, vs.Nurture: How we are raised determines our choices. There was a huge section of the National Geographic on this issue, here is the link: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2012/01/twins/miller-text. The saying above blames either Nature and Nurture or both. Implying that either parents bringing Gay people up are to blame for how they raised them or/and they are also to blame because they provided the Gay gene. Both ideas have not been proven right or wrong, so the sign can not be backed up by any facts. Although the sign goes against known facts like; that parents don't get to choose their own genes, nor do they choose their kids genes and even if parents raise their kid to be gay, the kid can rebel and not be gay...it works the same the other way around too, so why wouldn't this fact apply.

So back to the basic start of human life- we as humans, all have to start somewhere and it is a good thing science has discovered that a sperm and an egg make a baby. The other message I have seen is that several other creatures have Gay tendencies, or they create a baby differently, they are not humans so does it really matter? Two sperms and two eggs do not make a human baby. This basic science does not change, if all humans are Gay and never change their mind about that, human life would stop eventually. If it is a strait persons fault for having a gay child, it would also be their fault for having a disabled child. I don't think it is the the intention of the supporters of this saying, to blame strait people for having a disabled child, but they are by agreeing with this ridiculous message. Both are a part of our human life, and come from strait people. Are disabled people considered bad or wrong? I am also not sure the person behind the saying pictured above understands they are blaming strait people for human life while blaming us for their own existence of creating gay human life. Are they mad at their own creation?

So there you have a bit of Nature in that discovery that leads to the next part, genes. We all have genes and someone came up with the novel idea to check genes for traits, diseases, life expectancy and try to gather everything about a person through their genes. The problem with science giving choices to genes, is that Gay persons have genes from a strait mother and father...and the generations go on and on of strait people genes, so even if it skipped a generation or 2, eventually it would dwindle out in the genes. Some science supports the issue by saying that a person with the gay gene can choose to have sex with the opposite sex and carry the gene on. To that scientific thought, I say by mentioning the word choice the thought makes itself contrary to a no choice gene. So it makes no sense that a gene somewhere caused a trait that would lead to gayness, as that trait would have died off long ago...with the lack of human reproduction. I can't say it more clearly than this.

Alterations of genes is another scientific idea trying to be proved or disproved. What has been proven is that some genes change, it is easy to see this when it comes to cancer cells. Those cells are genetically damaged cells that reproduce another cell like it. Somehow a gene may be altered by hormones or other factors. Most gay people get really offended by this, because they don't want to think of it as a disease. Science to find facts have to look at all possibilities, whether some people get offended or not. Also if it isn't about genes, hormones play a large part in our body too, leading to our moods, behaviors, and even mental disorders...hormones also lead to other things like sex. If it isn't in genes, other bodily sources might contribute to desires difficult to control. Humans gay or strait have a wide range of desires and emotions difficult for some to control and easier for others. Whether it is difficult to control, it is still a choice to control it. If something isn't working right in our body, the happy side of that is that science may come up with a way to treat it, like some cancers. If this is proven correct, someday gay people might have treatment, but would they really want to be treated is the question? Again back to being gay people's choice.

I think the agenda behind the science is that scientific evidence will increase tolerance, I think people need to find tolerance in themselves and not look for a reason for it.

Speaking of family and genes I feel I should mention I love my family. I love them gay, strait, married, not married, living with someone, not living someone. I never even thought to base their sex life on if I accept them or not, ewe. I don't even want to know about that, let alone dwell on it. So I do have members in my family who are strait and gay and I love them, I really don't care. The only time I ever cared about someones sex life, was when it affected my choice negatively. I also don't see based on my family why a strait mother and father has 3 strait kids and 1 gay it becomes the parents fault. This is a choice! I really don't see how people believe in the message that strait people are to blame, for gay people! I choose my own sex life, why can't they choose theirs.

If you think that I am anti-gay you have me wrong. My opinion on gay or strait is that it is everyone's choice. Anyone can choose right or wrong in the matter, I don't care, and they can even choose what they think is right or wrong, or if there is any wrong to them, I don't care...it does not change the way I live and how I believe. I wouldn't want a single person, or a group like the government to say I had to by Gay, when I am strait, or even tell me whom I can love in that matter. If the government recognizes strait marriage it should fairly recognize gay marriage. It wasn't long ago they didn't accept African Americans as humans who deserved their basic human rights. If they accept gay marriage, it does not mean they accept incest, rape, and murder...all which affect an individuals right to choose. It means they recognize two individuals right to choose to marry each other. Now some would say who know me, that this is against my religion!!. Those people would be correct in that, it is against my religion to be gay, it is also against my religion to take choices from people, to be intolerant, judgmental, and un-Christ-like. Many religions hold to the basic belief that God loves all of his children, he does not condone sin, but he gave every human being the right to choose. So why would anyone who really believed in God, get the audacity to feel that it is their right to take away someones right to choose, a God given gift.

And that is my opinion on the matter.

So people who keep liking these sayings, you can like them, but I hope you understand what they are implying before you take that action. I really really hope that the world realizes that everything in quotation marks, all over the news, plastered on a billboard, or all over the internet does not make it true and/or noteworthy.

Any thoughts?

300-million-year-old forest discovered preserved in volanic ash

ScienceDaily (Feb. 20, 2012) ? Pompeii-like, a 300-million-year-old tropical forest was preserved in ash when a volcano erupted in what is today northern China. A new study by University of Pennsylvania paleobotanist Hermann Pfefferkorn and colleagues presents a reconstruction of this fossilized forest, lending insight into the ecology and climate of its time.

Pfefferkorn, a professor in Penn's Department of Earth and Environmental Science, collaborated on the work with three Chinese colleagues: Jun Wang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yi Zhang of Shenyang Normal University and Zhuo Feng of Yunnan University.

Their paper was published this week in the Early Edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The study site, located near Wuda, China, is unique as it gives a snapshot of a moment in time. Because volcanic ash covered a large expanse of forest in the course of only a few days, the plants were preserved as they fell, in many cases in the exact locations where they grew.

"It's marvelously preserved," Pfefferkorn said. "We can stand there and find a branch with the leaves attached, and then we find the next branch and the next branch and the next branch. And then we find the stump from the same tree. That's really exciting."

The researchers also found some smaller trees with leaves, branches, trunk and cones intact, preserved in their entirety.

Due to nearby coal-mining activities unearthing large tracts of rock, the size of the researchers' study plots is also unusual. They were able to examine a total of 1,000 m2 of the ash layer in three different sites located near one another, an area considered large enough to meaningfully characterize the local paleoecology.

The fact that the coal beds exist is a legacy of the ancient forests, which were peat-depositing tropical forests. The peat beds, pressurized over time, transformed into the coal deposits.

The scientists were able to date the ash layer to approximately 298 million years ago. That falls at the beginning of a geologic period called the Permian, during which Earth's continental plates were still moving toward each other to form the supercontinent Pangea. North America and Europe were fused together, and China existed as two smaller continents. All overlapped the equator and thus had tropical climates.

At that time, Earth's climate was comparable to what it is today, making it of interest to researchers like Pfefferkorn who look at ancient climate patterns to help understand contemporary climate variations.

In each of the three study sites, Pfefferkorn and collaborators counted and mapped the fossilized plants they encountered. In all, they identified six groups of trees. Tree ferns formed a lower canopy while much taller trees -- Sigillaria and Cordaites -- soared to 80 feet above the ground. The researchers also found nearly complete specimens of a group of trees called Noeggerathiales. These extinct spore-bearing trees, relatives of ferns, had been identified from sites in North America and Europe but appeared to be much more common in these Asian sites.

They also observed that the three sites were somewhat different from one another in plant composition. In one site, for example, Noeggerathiales were fairly uncommon, while they made up the dominant plant type in another site. The researchers worked with painter Ren Yugao to depict accurate reconstructions of all three sites.

"This is now the baseline," Pfefferkorn said. "Any other finds, which are normally much less complete, have to be evaluated based on what we determined here."

The findings are indeed "firsts" on many counts.

"This is the first such forest reconstruction in Asia for any time interval, it's the first of a peat forest for this time interval and it's the first with Noeggerathiales as a dominant group," Pfefferkorn said.

Because the site captures just one moment in Earth's history, Pfefferkorn noted that it alone cannot explain how climate changes affected life on Earth. But it helps provide valuable context.

"It's like Pompeii: Pompeii gives us deep insight into Roman culture, but it doesn't say anything about Roman history in and of itself," Pfefferkorn said. "But on the other hand, it elucidates the time before and the time after. This finding is similar. It's a time capsule and therefore it allows us now to interpret what happened before or after much better."

The study was supported by the Chinese Academy of Science, the National Basic Research Program of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the University of Pennsylvania.

Daily Tips for Business: Marketing Direct

In the marketing and advertising world, emphasis is usually placed on creative pieces designed for a mass audience. This type of marketing is cynically known by market researchers as "spray-and-pray" marketing, which means treating the entire target audience as if they have the same needs, wants and purchase motivations. Overcome spray-and-pray marketing with cluster-based market segmentation.

Taking photos -- Art, Structure plus Meaning

Perhaps one of the most common mistakes amateur photographers make is not considering the composition of the photograph. A change in perspective and placing of the lens can make the difference between a forgettable photograph and a priceless one. Good composition is a must in superior photography but there are some famous photographers who violate all the rules of composition and still come out with excellent pictures. It is because they have a great knowledge of composition and know how and when to break it. So knowing the rules of composition is extremely valuable.
The key to good photography is to get the right ISO and depth of angle. A great photographer spends time to familiarize themselves with everything their camera is capable of, either by reading the manual or trying various settings when taking pictures. Lack of knowledge of the principle elements of photography means the photographer will not achieve his goal of becoming a great photographer. Someone with an expensive DSLR camera will not succeed in becoming a competent photographer without the right knowledge. Having the right knowledge of cameras, a passion to learnt, ability to connect with the events or particular place, and knowledge of how to connect with the viewers are key to great photography.
With digital cameras, you can take thousands of pictures and there is no cost. This allows you to try out different things time and time again, so you learn how to take better and better photographs. Get down to their level when you photograph animals or other small objects. Use a plain background to create more contrast and effect. Move in close when you photograph flowers or animals. Lock the focus on an object so that it does not come out blurry. Try to know your flash range and above all -always be aware of the light.

MIND Reviews: The Journal of Best Practices by David Finch

Image:

The Journal of Best Practices: A Memoir of Marriage, Asperger Syndrome, and One Man?s Quest to Be a Better Husband
by David Finch. Scribner, 2012

Asperger syndrome is not funny?or at least it is not supposed to be. People with the disorder, which falls on the autism spectrum, lack social intuition and may fixate on obscure topics. For many, the condition can be isolating. Yet in The Journal of Best Practices, David Finch finds hilarity in the disorder, all the better for his fellow Aspies, the self-anointed nickname for members of the Asperger community, and the rest of us, who gain an entertaining lesson on what their lives can be like.

Finch is 30 years old when he is diagnosed with the syndrome. Although his wife, Kristen, accepts Finch as is, for him the diagnosis is both a revelation and a road map to mending their marriage, a union he believes had unraveled because of his Aspie quirks.

Finch tries to overcome those tendencies?his self-involvement, obsessions, inflexibility and lack of empathy?by developing a guide to help him become if not ?neurotypical,? at least easier to live with. A behavioral instruction manual appeals to Finch, who thrives on order. One of his many epiphanies comes after a workplace performance review, when he goes home and declares to Kristen that he wants one from her, too.

That may sound like a strategy sure to backfire, but Finch?s efforts to understand when to use his ?best practices? and when to just be himself is part of how he learns to manage Asperger syndrome. Empathy remains Finch?s Holy Grail, and his struggle to master it is an ongoing source of frustration for him.

Despite this lack of social intelligence, Finch understands how funny his earnest attempts at empathy come off to neurotypicals. He puts his Aspie obsessiveness to admirable use, diving into reality television, couples massages and Cosmopolitan magazine to try to ?get? his wife. He studies?and parrots?talk-show hosts to learn how to converse, and he adopts a persona to suit every occasion: Business Man for the office and Outgoing Man for social encounters.

That Finch ultimately discards these amazing compensatory skills is a testament to the happy medium he discovers. Forget a scarlet A for Asperger. Finch has earned an A for effort, and he should wear it proudly.

Balloon Juice ? Thursday Night Recipe Swap ? Mardi Gras (Gumbo!)

From our Food Goddess, TaMara:

I?m getting ready to travel again, so I?m swamped with getting everything done at work and home. But that doesn?t mean we can?t still celebrate Fat Tuesday with some New Orleans style food and drink. Bring on your party recipes. And next week let?s go vegetarian.

I wanted to do gumbo, but didn?t have time to recipe test anything this week, except a death-by-chocolate Texas Sheet Cake, and I find my own gumbo recipes lacking. Luckily when it comes to gumbo, JeffreyW runs circles around me. Here?s his take on a shrimp gumbo:
I was rummaging about in the big freezer and turned up a stick of Andouille sausage. That put me of a mind to make a pot of gumbo. I noticed that Alton Brown was touting a method of making a brown roux in the oven that seemed to be foolproof, and didn?t require one to stand over the stove stirring for a half hour and more:
Place the vegetable oil and flour into a 5 to 6-quart cast iron Dutch oven and whisk together to combine. Place on the middle shelf of the oven, uncovered, and bake for 1 1/2 hours, whisking 2 to 3 times throughout the cooking process.

Seemed to work pretty well:

This was after 90 minutes. It could have spent a little longer and been a bit more brown but I went with it as you see it. More or less following Alton?s recipe, I put it over a medium flame on the cooktop and stirred in diced celery, green peppers, and onion. The roux turned right away into thick mud but I kept stirring it until the veggies softened a bit, about ten minutes. Next was several cups (4-5?) of the stock the chicken I used was cooked in, fortified with some Creole seasoning, along with the canned tomato bits I used in lieu of fresh. I did have fresh thyme and even grow my own bay leaves now. That simmered for a half hour before I added the cooked chicken, thawed pre-cooked shrimp, and the sliced and browned Andouille sausage.

Serve over rice, and be sure to have a bottle of hot sauce on the table lest you be taunted.

Business Process Outsourcing Services ? Increased Profitability and Productivity

By Laura N Jones

Business process outsourcing basically involves the transfer of various business processes to a third party service entity.

BPO companies take the responsibilities of back office tasks, organizing and building up data very systematically.

Additionally, outsourcing also provides business professionals more freedom and time to engage in core competencies.

Therefore, business process outsourcing services assure increased profitability and productivity for organizations. Business enterprises can also expect to get high market value for products and services because of high-level customer response and care.

Access Multiple Possibilities and Services of BPO Companies

Reputable and experienced BPO companies have well-maintained infrastructure together with highly qualified employees to deliver quality and maximum output.

Different business process outsourcing services are available to suit the demands of major companies associated with travel, hospitality, healthcare, legal services, banking, IT field, insurance and mortgage.

As part of streamlining business processes, many companies provide back office outsourcing services to BPO companies. This will reduce the workload of business professionals in managerial job so that they can focus on customer care and new business strategies.

Outsource your non-core tasks such as medical/legal transcriptions, medical coding and billing, data entry, search engine optimization, web design, accounting and book keeping, document scanning, book conversion, insurance claims processing, telemarketing, business consultancy, travel management, and documentation and forms processing to ensure maximum quality and precision. Reliable BPO firms also provide services in quick turnaround times.

BPO Benefits Assure Comprehensive Business Success

Outsourcing helps leverage state-of-the-art technology and human resources at reduced costs. Additionally, BPO companies are capable of handling diverse peripheral tasks effectively and consistently.

To stay ahead of competitors, it is necessary to understand the market trends and provide excellent customer support. You can make sure of this by entrusting non-core tasks to outsourcing companies and focusing on customer care.

BPO companies have all required knowledge about the risks involved in business.

Therefore outsourcing tasks to responsible BPO providers will help to lessen business risks due to changes in government policies, technology, market trend and economy.

Many organizations find it difficult to find the money necessary for setting up infrastructure and hiring employees.

However, BPO services are at your side to reduce operational costs and capital investment. Overhead costs of employment perks and infrastructure maintenance are also avoided to ensure a positive difference in business revenue. Thus available resources can be used for vital business activities to generate more income and productivity.

Other benefits that have an impact on business success are affordable pricing, cost savings up to 30-40%, customized turnaround schedules, maximum accuracy, data security, rigorous quality checking, maintenance of work logs and high-level customer satisfaction.

Associating with the right business process outsourcing services always assures increased profitability and productivity. Business organizations can set aside the risks of business once the data processing tasks are assigned to reliable BPO companies.
