Specialized Mountain Bike Shoes Are A Must For The Serious Rider

When people began to cycle, they simple wore shoes that rested on the pedals. Then someone came up with the idea of having a way to stop the shoes from sliding around with a clip in system. This system is much like the bindings for ski boot where the shoes attach to the pedals with a clip-in system. Specialized mountain bike shoes utilize this type of system and are used for performance cycling.

This kind of clip-in pedal systems is designed so that it improves the efficiency of each pedal stroke. This is accomplished by the cyclist to put pressure on the pedal all 360 degree. With most of these cycling shoe systems you snap your shoe cleat into the special pedals with downward pressure and then you can release it by twisting your foot outward.

If you do a fair amount of cycling then you probably already know how important it is to wear cycling shoes.

On the other hand if you only ride occasionally then maybe you have not yet discovered the difference these cycling shoes can give you over just wearing a pair of sneakers.

Specialized cycling shoes are designed and manufactured to give you a high level of comfort as well as maximum connection with the pedals on your bike. They also make cycling easier on your knees. So let?s look at some of the reasons why you would want to use them instead of just a pair of sneakers.

As I said right off the start these special cycling shoes increase the efficiency of your pedaling while riding. This is no small thing. A few months after I first started to cycle I invested in a pair of cycling shoes as I found a immediate increase in the average speed I was able to achieve on my rides.

That increase was about 3 km per hour which may or may not seem like much but for me going from 27 ? 30 km per hour was huge. It all resulted from me being able to apply constant force to the pedals through the complete 360 degree pedal stroke. Simply sneakers aren?t able to allow you to do that.

Cycling shoes also give you added control. I can remember one day I was training out of town and I forgot my cycling shoes. I could either ride without them or go home and not ride at all. I decided to ride in my running shoes. I ran into some real problems on one hill when I started going down and my feet couldn?t keep up to the pedals and both feet came off the pedals. I was in big problems. Thankfully I was able to keep the bike in control until I got to the bottom and got my feet back on the pedals but the lack of control was scary.

Sneakers also aren't designed to dissipate heat. Now if you?ve cycled any distance you know every part of you gets heated up even your feet. This heat can cause a lot of discomfort for your feet including numbness. Cycling shoes are designed especially to allow them to breath by circulating air through them thus keeping your feet cool and comfortable.

Cycling shoes are specifically designed for the various disciplines of cycling including mountain and road biking. While casual cyclists probably don?t need to wear them, Specialized mountain bike shoes are a must for anyone trying to improve their riding performance.
